Hekyll and Jyde – (2014) for Trumpet and Piano, or Euphonium and Piano, Grade 4, 2’50”
This publication is a silly little march I wrote over the summer for trumpet and piano, titled “Hekyll and Jyde.” The title is, of course, a play on the title “Jekyll and Hyde,” referring colloquially to someone who is of completely opposite character at different times. Musically, this translates to two sections that are a tritone apart. The first section is in E-flat major, and the second is in A minor. In the first section, the first theme is heavily based on the tritone. The introductory material is a brief fanfare based on the interval of a tritone between the pitch classes E-flat and A as well. I’ve decided that the material would also be appropriate for euphonium, so I have published a version for that instrument as well. This work is accessible for good high school students as well as young college performers. Listen below! Order here.
